Clear, healthy and plump skin. Warm sweet candles. Chewing gum. Plastic wrap. Waterproofing. Unique perfume.
Did you know that beeswax starts out colorless? As the female bees bring more and more pollen to the hive, it begins to colour up! Connecting the dots, this means that your local beeswax is definitely a product of the flowers you see, and smell daily. Don’t we all need, to feel a little more connected to our surroundings?
Yes we do friends, so let’s slather our lives with local flora beeswax.
Now you may have heard about the benefits of bee pollen, which we also sell at Marché Bleuet, and one could speculate that some of these benefits translate to the wax.
Beeswax has anti-inflammatory properties along with anti-bacterial properties, meaning that it is a great ingredient to apply to your skin, particularly for wound healing. I can see you are already running to the store to buy beeswax, don’t forget to bring this cheat sheet.

You will need
- Beeswax*

3. Gum
Banana Gum
- 1/4 cup beeswax
- 1/2 cup organic powdered sugar*
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Banana extract (choose your flavour, peppermint is less common)
In a double boiler, melt the wax until it becomes soft, almost liquid.
Add in the honey.
Add about 5 drops of flavouring.
Stir in the sugar, the mixture will become thick.
Using molds of choice – ice cube trays work – pour the gum base in equal amounts, then refrigerate and pop them out.
Notes
*Can use xylitol, make sure to powder it in a coffee/spice grinder
4. Plastic Wrap
Using a piece of cotton, spread some beeswax over it.
A more detailed version of using cotton and beeswax as a plastic wrap alternative can be found at The Healthy Green Family.
5. Waterproofing
Are you out fishing or camping and it rains and then your matches are wet and you can’t light a fire? Yes, bummer! Happens all the time. Just spread some beeswax on them, and they become pretty water resistant!
Or maybe you keep some matches in your bathroom to light those warm honey candles we talked about earlier, so waterproofing might be good to prevent them from absorbing too much moisture.
Also, you can use beeswax to protect leather goods, shoes or purses, belts, from water damage.
6. Unique perfume
Melt beeswax into a small container, add in essential oils of choice, apply on pulse points. Here are a few ideas:
- Lemon, Bergamot, Lavender
- Sweet Orange, Jasmine
- Lavender, Vanilla
- Grapefruit, Cedar
