It’s 2018 and wow, my lips are Chapped.
Problem solved: Let Shelby Cohen, in house DIY’er and essential oil enthusiast show us how to make a Vegan lip balm.
You may have noticed our ‘DIY’ section stocked with beautiful packaging for all your natural home made beauty needs. For this project, we like the 15ml silver balm containers. If you want to get extra pretty you can order the labels from staples to match: these ones are code 08293.
It won’t be winter all year long so this recipe makes 3 lip balms, one for home, one for being chapped-lip free at work, and one lucky one for the pocket.
Equipment:
- Double boiler or a warm pot with water and a dry metal bowl inside.
- Spatula
- Lip balm tins
- Plastic syringe (not a must but handy)
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp cocoa butter (18grams)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (15 grams)
- ½ tsp castor wax flakes (vegan wax) (1/2 gram)
- Essential oils of choice: Shelby uses for her forest inspired lip balm:
- 9 drops cedar leaf, 21 drops clary sage, 12 drops balsam fir. (this is one has an extremely fragrant forest aroma so feel free to use less E.O. for this project if you wish)
So what next: Let’s make it. It’s really really easy.
- Preheat the double boiler, or make-shift boiler
- Add castor wax first and melt it
- Add cocoa butter second and melt it
- Add Olive oil
Once it has melted into a liquid
- Remove from heat
- Add essential oils, stir
- Fill containers. (if it’s starting to solidify heat gently again and continue to fill)
- Carfully close the containers and put in the fridge for 1 hour
Voila, you did it. And now those lips are going to be forest fresh and soft for the year to come.
