Here it is folks, the moment we have all been waiting for, 2021 has arrived. Things aren’t looking up though. We all seem to be looking down at our salty boots in the snow, waiting for better days ahead.
Well let’s flip the switch. This months post is created to inspire delight and gratitude for the things we do have. The wonderful foods made here by our lovely local Quebec and Canadian producers. This is our list of favourites, all locally made and locally loved.
We asked each employee to submit their two favourite local Québec or Canadian made products to share with you here.
William’s Picks:
L’Artisan Pasta: I chose this organic wheat pasta from l’Artisan as my first pick. I can’t stress enough how this pasta is the best I have found since I moved here to Canada. I’m Italian, I lived there my whole life, and I can honestly say that l’Artisan’s pasta would compete with some of Italy’s best brands. I love it for the composition of the pasta, how it stays firm after you have cooked it, how it mixes with other sauces, and that it’s certified organic and made the traditional way.
Whole Earth and Sea’s chocolate protein bars: I see Whole Earth and Sea as one of the best brands in Canada. The quality of the ingredients and the way they craft their products is incredible. These bars are made with vegetables, nuts, and chocolate which exceed the basic requirements for getting an Organic certification. Whole Earth and Sea complies to the Isura standard, which certifies the absence of more than 400+ pollutants and contaminants. Besides all of the technicalities, this bar are just mouth watering.
Ineka’s Picks:
Little Stream’s buckwheat bread: It’s hearty, it’s sour dough, the ingredients are simple, high quality and delicious. It’s nice to have a gluten free bread without any gums or starches. When you can’t have gluten and like the taste of a real sourdough, this bread has a rich and deep flavour.
Riviera goat cheddar: Last week I made a grilled cheese with this and the buckwheat bread and it was delicious. This cheddar has a light flavour and is lactose free, also the goat milk comes from locally raised goats.
Genevieve’s Picks:
Miels Raphäel’s 100% beeswax candles. Miels Raphaël bee’s wax candles: These 100% pure bee’s wax candles made in Quebec are a healthy, eco-responsible way to enjoy a warm and cozy atmosphere. They are clean-burning and have a delicate aroma of honey; they are ideal for cocooning!
My second pick would be the Bleu & Bon frozen blueberries, because they are a delicious source of antioxidants to make your own jam, smoothie or even healthy cocktail recipe. They are wild Quebec blueberries at their best.
Sabrina’s Pick’s:
Pousse Menu Salad Repas: Pousse menu are Urban farmers that have been making meals healthier since 1988, because this isn’t just healthy, organic, locally grown Montreal food – it’s also living food. Sprouts are just about the healthiest food you can give your body. The sprouting process increases the vitamin, enzyme and phytonutrient content of food exponentially, which in turn increases bioavailability and absorption. The Pousse salad is definitely a favourite lunch pick among staff and clients alike, and for good reason. It kind of has it all: red clover, sunflower, pink radish, daikon, buckwheat and fenugreek (all sprouted), lacto-fermented red cabbage, grated carrots and sprouted lentils topped with their flavorful Oriental vinaigrette and the tastiest piece de resistance – their deliciously crunchy Craquamande. I swear I could feel my skin glow after this nutritional punch of a meal.
Without a doubt, Dale’s upcycled wood soap dishes. One pair of hands, plenty of heart, and a product made not only from completely sustainable material (what you have in your hands is part of the tree that fell behind the store!) but also designed and constructed right in the bowels of Marche Bleuet itself.
Heather’s Picks:
Miel d’Anicet Raw Wild Flower Honey: I love this honey and I will eat it by the spoonful guilt free. Mostly I use it in my tea but wow this is the stuff that honey dreams are made of. Every batch is different because every season is different and I love that about it. You are literaly tasting a changing landscape. They are one of the only certified organic honey companies in Canada and I think this Quebec honey is one of the best in the world in terms of taste and quality.
Floressence: This is my go-to favourite herbal cleanse. It is especially important for those post-holiday over indulgence/January blah feelings. I love the way it tastes, I find it very grounding and warming. The recipe has its roots stemming from Ojibwe herbal wisdom using 8 plants found in Canada. I’ve been taking this on and off for over fifteen years and hope they never stop making it.
